Ever after that, I made sure the disc is dripping wet before turning it on and haven't had a problem since. This thing worked wonders on my CD's, DVD's and Gamecube games. I'd say I'm having a 99% success rate. Anytime one of them is shot, I use the SkipDoctor and they work like new. The first time I used it on a DVD, I didn't use enough fluid and ended up ruining the disc, which went from sticking on a scene to completely unplayable. Except for the early ones I ruined because I didn't know better, they've all been rescued. This product is a necessity when kids are handling the disc media and will save you lots of money in no time.
I've used the SkipDoctor on mutiple CDs that wouldn't play all the way through and every one works without flaws now. I even used it on a blank that was scratched enough that I worried whether or not I should dare burn to it. After using the SkipDoctor I was able to burn to the disk without problems and playback is just as flawless.Follow the instructions and this thing works exactly as advertised. I highly recommend it to anyone who has disks that need some maintenance.
This is the best by far. The only donwnside however, is that it is LOUD. Also the design is really good, because its compact.
Ive also tried the Aleratec one, and this one seems more efective. The people that complain that their discs are warped is because you have to spay the disc with the liquid provided to keep the temperature down. If your going to buy one buy this one because the rest dont fix 3" discs, just 5".
You store the liquid bottle and both cloths within the device itself and the disc holder on the side. I say this because it seems like this one removes more material from the disc though leaving the surface smoother. The Aleratec just sort of lightly buffs the surface.
Theres friction here. Dont be worried about the patter that this makes on the disc, its normal and that the purpose of the whole thing, this makes it easier for the lens to read the data.
At this moment, this product has 8 5-star reviews and 11 1-star reviews. I believe I followed the directions to the letter, and even re-did it after reading some of the instructions in the customer reviews. I'm afraid I'm having to make it 12. I tried to repair 2 DVDs which freeze, though neither has any particularly deep scratches. Well, I now have 2 more coasters, 2 less DVDs, and a SkipDoctor headed for the trash bin. Very disappointing.
Pros-Skip doctor so far has been able to save several of my kids scratched up game discs that has more than paid for itself in savings of replacing expensive x box 360 games. So far 6/6 games repaired. Con-Product seems a bit flimsy in construction.Dont know if product will last with repeated use. Also refill for repolishing fluid and disc replacement a bit pricey.Sound of device in use a bit annoying.Overall would repurchase Skip Doctor again.
